Sandra Ramsay

June 2, 1944 — March 28, 2022

Sandra Lynn Ramsay passed away and entered the arms of our Heavenly Father and Lord on March 28th.

Sandra was born on June 2, 1944 in Jefferson, Texas to Milford and Virginia McDonald. She and her younger sister, Linda enjoyed playing outdoors and playing with their pet chickens and dog Tippy. At an early, age Sandra and Linda showed great concern for the health and welfare of their parents, and did not at all like the fact that their Daddy smoked. So, they endeavored to prevent this by planning and proceeding to bury his pipe and tobacco in the back yard! But ultimately, it did not lead to the successful outcome they had hoped for! Like her father, Sandra took an early interest in salesmanship at an early age. She sold boxes of all occasion greeting cards in order to save the necessary money to purchase a used piano so she could learn to play. She enjoyed playing piano for many years and later enjoyed playing the organ as well.

Sandra graduated Jefferson High School in May 1962, and married George Francis Ramsay (Butch Ramsay) on June 2, 1962, at the First United Methodist Church in Jefferson. In the early years of their marriage, Sandra worked at East Texas Industrial Gas Company as office manager and later at the tax office in Jefferson while Butch worked for the Texas Department of Human Services. On April 20, 1963, Sandra and Butch welcomed their daughter Raechelle Lynn Ramsay into the world and a few years later on December 16, 1969, were blessed with the birth of son George Francis Ramsay III (Trey Ramsay). Sandra, Butch and their children moved to Austin, Texas in January 1972, when Butch took a promoted position with the Dept. of Human Resources there. It was a big move transitioning of moving from the tiny town of Jefferson to Austin. So, Sandra devoted herself to making the new home in Austin feel warm and welcoming. Once her children were a little older, Sandra returned to the workforce, working for State Farm Insurance and later for J & H Masonry Company as office manager and bookkeeper.

In 1982, Sandra and family moved to Georgetown to live in the home they built and enjoyed on Fawnridge Drive. It was there she changed careers and began working as a dental assistant for several years before beginning her own small business Sandra’s Gifts of Distinction selling specialty gifts in Round Rock, Waco and Salado. Sandra loved spending time with her family and friends and frequently had gatherings at the home. She enjoyed planting flowers, vegetable gardens, tropical plants and also spent much her time enjoying her goldfish and koi ponds.

Sandra was a devoted mother and a wonderful homemaker, always maintaining a proper home and providing love and support her husband and children. She volunteered with her children’s school activities and led her daughter Raechelle’s Bluebird and Campfire girls’ organizations and always offered support to her son Trey’s Cub Scout and Boy scout troops. Sandra loved entertaining and frequently had gatherings at the home including dinners, barbecues and game nights. She wasn’t perfect, but was a good and caring person, loyal friend and a good listener, and would fiercely defend her children or others she loved if she felt they had been wronged. Sandra loved her children and grandkids. She especially took delight in attending her grandkids activities from school events, to soccer, scouts, graduations etc. She deeply loved her grandsons and was so proud of them. She also loved her pets which included numerous cats and dogs, but was especially fond of her Australian Shepherd Blue who now resides with her son Trey and his family.

Sandra is survived by her daughter, Raechelle Montgomery; her son, Trey Ramsay and his wife, Melissa Ramsay; grandsons: Trenton Montgomery, George Ramsay IV, and Jack Ramsay; sister, Linda McDowel and husband, Gene McDowel; niece, Heather Haley and her husband, Steve Haley; grandnieces: Victoria Haley, and Alana Haley; grandnephew, Benjamin Haley, and former husband, Butch Ramsay.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her name to: Bastrop Count Animal Shelter or Zilker Botanical Gardens in Austin Texas.
