Lori Adams

July 21, 1927 — November 25, 2022

Smithville

Lorraine (Lori) Kelley Adams peacefully slipped the bonds of earth on Friday, November 25th 2022.

She was born on July 2, 1927 in Smithville of parents Myrtle and Chester Kelley. After graduating from Smithville High School 1945, she moved to Houston, then to Dallas. She attended SMU in Dallas, Santa Monica City College in California and various others. She liked challenges - first being horses in Smithville, motorcycles and then airplanes. She went to work for Trans-Texas Airways, (later name changed to Texas International) at Love Field in Dallas, as the first female ticket agent for the airline and then became interested in aviation. After obtaining her private pilot's certificate, she moved to California. There she accomplished her commercial/flight instructor certificates with instrument and multi-engine ratings. She moved back to Houston where she fulfilled a personal aspiration by starting her own flying school, Lori's Flight School in Houston. She acquired over 29,000 hours of flight time during her lifetime. At the age of 88 she received the FAA Wright Brothers Award for 50 years of Flying and the AOPA Award and Recognition for her flying career. Flying was indeed the love of her life.

When her mother's health began to worsen, she moved back to Smithville and semi-retired. Lori was Past Noble Grand of Mary Rebekah Lodge No. 117 in Austin and Past Matron three times of Fidelis Chapter No. 963 of the Order of the Eastern Star in Austin.

Lori was a kind, generous and industrious person who always considered others' needs ahead of her own. She had a strong faith in God. She had no children.

She is survived by her sister Joyce Call  Of Smithville, and many nieces and nephews, and friends.

Memorials may be made to the Rebekah Home in Ennis or to the Order of the Eastern Star Home in Arlington.
