Lloyd Gipson

August 6, 1939 — February 18, 2021

Smithville

Lloyd Alex Gipson was born July 20, 1939, to Ola Mae and Bennie Gipson.  He was called home at 3:42am on Thursday, February 18, 2021, at Towers Nursing Home where he had resided since August of 2019.

Lloyd accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at a young age.  He was baptized at Colorado Missionary Baptist Church in Smithville, Texas. He would serve as a deacon of the Sweet Home Baptist from 2011 until August of 2019.

Lloyd married Darlene Sims on March 14, 1975. To this union was born Julie Renee and Armiashia Gipson.

During his lifetime, Lloyd traveled all over. He worked in Corpus and at the state capital in Austin for many years. Many might say that he was a “jack of all trades”, moving here and there.  But when his father’s cancer returned and his assistance was needed at the home place, Lloyd stood tall. He became the right hand, and his sister Betty was the left hand as they took care of their parents until their passing.

Lloyd was a lover of all sports. He could watch tennis, football, basketball and even some soccer. When he could not physically move, the employees at Towers made sure he could see a television and watch his sports.

Lloyd is proceeded in death by his parents, a great-grandchild, one brother and one sister.

He leaves to cherish his memory: daughters Julie Renee Gipson and Armiashia Hardin (Anthony); granddaughters Key-Iola Randle and Ashley Randle; grandsons Malikque and Marlon Brown; great-granddaughter Alize Harmon; sisters Maurice Davis (Donell, Sr), Betty M. Walker, and Ellazene Sampson (Herbert); brother Rev. Johnnie Lee Gipson, sister-in-law Marie Clark, brother-in-law Ronell Eglin Sr.; lifelong friend James Griffin, and Tyron Washington (Heather), who was like a son. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
