Lela Limmer

May 26, 1936 — September 1, 2022

Smithville

Lela Limmer passed peacefully on September 1, 2022 at the age of 86.

Lela Rae Limmer was born May 26, 1936 to the late Willie Anderson & Eddie Jewel Clark in Buckholts, Texas. She was one of 6 children born into a hard-working family of sharecroppers. Lela was a 1955 graduate of Yoe High School in Cameron, Texas and had a larger-than-life personality.

She married the love of her life, Marvin Eugene Limmer on May 27th, 1960. Her favorite thing to say to people was “My birthday was the 26th, I got married the 27th, and had Garrett on the 30th…” to which she would pause for dramatic effect then follow with “…3 years later” after getting weird looks from those listening. She loved to laugh and joke with those around her. She was what she often referred to others as, “A site”.

Lela was a true-blue honkey-tonker who “danced her way across Texas” and enjoyed listening to old country records. She was an avid gardener, antique enthusiast, and loved birds. Her crowning achievement and absolute favorite thing in life was being a grandmother. She loved her grandchildren so much that she retired early to be able to care for them and be with them any and every day that she could.

Lela is survived by her children Garrett Limmer (Annie) and Kimberly Pence (Earl); her grandchildren Sheridan Tiner (Toby), Shelby Espinoza (Adam), and Sydney Limmer; her siblings Alice Attaway, Logene (Tommy) Moffett, Billy Clark, and Belinda Bristol. She is preceded in death by her husband Marvin, sister Aileen Kenerson, and her parents Willie and Eddie (Jewel).
