Elizabeth R Null

May 23, 1937 ~ July 11, 2020 (age 83)

Obituary

Elizabeth was born on May 23, 1937 in Grassyville, Texas, to Emil Reimers of Giddings, Texas and Alma Franz of Paige, Texas. Elizabeth was of German and Wendish heritage. She was the youngest of 4 girls, losing her sister, Gladys, in infancy. Her oldest sister by 6 years is Joan Smelser of Austin, Texas, and her sister by 4 years was Joyce Schultz, who preceded her in the Lord’s grace in 2019. When Elizabeth was 4, Alma and Emil moved their family to begin farming in Smithville, Texas. Their home was adjacent to the farm of her mother’s sister and brother in law, Florence and Howard Burns on FM 535. Her grandmother, Ganny, lived just up the road. Farming was not an easy life, but Elizabeth and her sisters helped as needed. The Reimers family became a vital part of the Smithville community, and active members of Grace Lutheran Church. Elizabeth attended Smithville High School, where she achieved the honors of Head Cheerleader and Miss Smithville High. After high school, she attended business school in Austin and was married at the young age of 19. She was blessed with 2 children, Leigh Ann the oldest, and Don the youngest. Her new family moved from Austin to Houston, where she worked as the administrative assistant for the sales department at Transcon Truck Lines for over 22 years. Elizabeth began a new chapter in her life after many years of battling and conquering cancer, and the collapse of the trucking industry which resulted in the end of her life-long career at Transcon. She was reacquainted with her high school sweetheart, Fred R. Null, in 1985. In their younger days they were known as Freddie Rae and Lizzy Mae. They were destined to be together, and were married in 1986. They enjoyed a loving marriage until Fred succumbed to cancer in 2014. The tragic loss of Fred was very difficult for Elizabeth to overcome, especially with her onset of dementia. Shortly after losing Fred, Elizabeth moved to Hempstead, Texas to live with her son, Don. She spent three happy years on his ranch, with her cow dogs, Red and Daisy, and her pet rooster, Fred Astaire. She fought against her ailments with everything she had, and leaned on her faith to stave off the memory stealing Alzheimer’s. She finally lost her courageous struggle on July 11, 2020, and peacefully, in the Lord’s grace, left us to join her parents, sisters Gladys and Joyce, and husband, Fred. Rejoicing in her memory are Elizabeth’s children and their spouses, Leigh Ann and Rob, Don and Paul, grandchildren Jason, wife Sam, and Ashley, Elizabeth’s sister, Joan and husband Aubrey, great grandchildren Avianna and Titan, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family and friends. We will miss the blessings of Elizabeth’s joyous light and love until we are reunited again in heaven.
