Cathy Carlson

May 1, 1952 — April 30, 2022

Smithville, TX

Cathy Kay Carlson, 69, of Smithville, Texas passed away peacefully in her sleep and with her husband at her side on April 30th, 2022 following an unexpected diagnosis of cancer.

She was born in Dallas, Tx on May 1, 1952 to Henry Smetak and Betty Abbott Smetak. In her younger years, Cathy got to travel to places like El Paso, Texas and all the way to California. After her traveling adventures she settled down to start a family. Following marriage hardships and a divorce, as a single mom of three, Cathy moved from the Dallas area to Austin, Texas where she supported her children as a dental assistant. On March 7th, 1987 she married her loving husband, Wade Carlson. She devoted the remainder of her life to him and raising their blended family of five children.

She was a modest but passionate woman who stayed strong in all her beliefs. Her faith in Christ was unwavering and she was committed to serving the Lord. Much of her life was dedicated to being the primary caregiver of her grandson with autism, Tristan. It was this devotion that led her to become a warrior for Medical Freedom. Not only did she always offer herself to her family, but she also touched thousands of lives on social media in the Medical Freedom community and beyond, and offered her support and guidance to anyone who needed it. She made many lifelong friends along the way.

Cathy is survived by her loving and devoted husband Wade Carlson, her father Henry "Hank" Smetak, her mother-in-law Ardella "Dell" Carlson, her children Christopher (Andrea) Carlson, April (John) Campos, Monica (Jim) Kloos, Matthew Skotnicki, Christen Noblitt; her siblings Steve (Cindy) Smetak, Kevin Hayes, Todd (Betty) Smetak, Tiffany (Will) Smetak Scurr; her grandchildren Tristan, Jimmy, Chase, Justin, Kaylee, Chelsa, Jack, Riley, Karli, Brett, and Katie. Along with many close and lifelong friends. She is preceded in death by her mother Betty Lindsay (Hayes), her stepmother Glenda Smetak, and father-in-law Neil Carlson.

Graveside services will be at 2:00pm on Saturday, May 21, 2022 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Smithville, Texas.  Food and fellowship will be announced following the service.

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Galatians 6:9
