Sterling Keith Haney

September 21, 1985 — December 3, 2023

Smithville

Sterling Keith Haney, aka Bubba, was born September 21, 1985 to Jerry and Sharon Haney. He was the eldest of three children, although he knew the real bosses were his two sisters, Brittney and Hunter.

Sterling met the love of his life, his wife Laura, and they married on October 21, 2006. Together they brought two beautiful babies into this world. Sterling loved his family fiercely. He was so proud of his daughter, Taylor, and his little shadow Cody. The four of them enjoyed traveling together more than anything. Whether it was Hawaii or New York, they were up for the adventure.

Sterling was always the most quick-witted person in the room. He could compliment you and take a lighthearted jab all in the same sentence…. and it would make you laugh until you cried. No one was safe from his zingers, not even his Momma, whom he loved madly.

Second only to his family was his love of the outdoors. Sterling grew up learning to fish and hunt with his dad, Jerry. From a young age, they would always be on the lookout for their next mount and where they could cast their next pole.

You rarely found Sterling lounging. He was one of those people that made you feel obligated to get up and help because he was always active. From building a barn to fixing fence, there was always something to be done.

He loved his career at TCS Mechanical and being part of Local 286. He took pride in doing a job and doing it well. Sterling never met a stranger and his smile could light up a dark room. He will be desperately missed by all.

Sterling is preceded in death by his grandmothers, grandfathers, and close friends. He is survived by his loving wife of 17 years, Laura; his children Taylor and Cody; his parents Jerry and Sharon Haney; his sister Brittney Ross and her husband, Justin; his sister Hunter Millhollin and her husband, Joe; his niece and nephew Aubrey and Nolan, all of Smithville, TX; along with numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins (we are a big family).

We will celebrate Sterling’s life on Sunday, December 10th at 2:00 pm. The memorial will be held at the 5H- Haney Ranch, located at 270 Mark Young Rd in Smithville, Texas.
