Sandra L. Foytik

November 29, 1942 — October 20, 2023

Sandra Lee (Costa) Foytik, age 80, passed away on Friday, October 20th, 2023, at home surrounded by family. She was born on November 29, 1942 in Bourne, Massachusetts to William and Edith (Anderson) Costa. At the age of 16, while attending a baseball game, she met her husband and love of her life, of 60 years, Joe A. Foytik. After the birth of their son, the family of three moved to Joe’s hometown of Smithville, Texas.

Sandra Foytik is survived by son, Joey Foytik and his late wife Joan, daughters, Brenda Foytik, Kathy Stubbs and her husband Jerry, Karen Badders and her husband John, Sharon Hancock and her husband Tom; Carolyn Foytik and daughter Janet Perkins and her husband Rob, brother Stephen P. Costa and his wife Betty, cousin, Pat Kimble and her husband Kim, along with 18 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and her 4 dogs.

She was preceded in death by her husband Joe A. Foytik, grandsons Kennedy Rainosek and Reece Perkins, daughter-n-law Joan Foytik, parents William and Edith Costa, grandmother Blanch Morse Anderson and Grandpa Lovejoy, brother William Costa and late wife Claudia, and nephew Paul Costa.

Sandra began her full-time job of raising seven children, one boy followed by six girls. While her children were still small, she worked with a brother-n-law doing upholstery work; then with a friend, she owned and operated her own upholstery business. She soon became a business owner of the United Food Store, a local establishment, located in Smithville, Texas. Her final career journey led her to work full-time at H-E-B Grocery for the next fifteen years until retirement in March of 2003.

Sandra’s time as a mother was her greatest achievement. While Joe was out of town, her children have fond memories of her putting an Elvis, vinyl record on the stereo player; she cranked up the volume, sang and danced around. Along with Elvis, some of her favorite music artists included Loretta Lynn, Patsy Cline, and Conway Twitty. Even though Sandra enjoyed her music artists, she spent a great deal of her time teaching her children how to play good ol’ fashion games such as: jacks, hopscotch, coloring, tic-tac-toe, word search puzzles, bingo, and one of her favorite card games, rummy. Although she enjoyed teaching her kids how to play these games, she enjoyed winning more. More importantly, her main priority was to keep her children safe and humble.

A public visitation for all family and friends will be held at Marrs Jones Funeral Home from 4:00pm to 8:00pm on Monday, October 30, 2023.

The family will get together privately to celebrate Sandra's life and she will be laid to rest at Oak Hill Cemetery.

The funeral home is located at 110 American Legion Road in Smithville.
