Smithville

Sammie Johnson was a truck driver, life-long resident, and active member of the Sweet Home Primitive Baptist Church of Smithville, Texas. He passed away unexpectedly due to acute occlusive pulmonary thromboembolism, possible embolus (blood clot) on May 21, 2026, at the age of 78 while hospitalized at Ascension Seton in Austin, Texas.

Sammie Ray Johnson Sr was born in 1947 to Sam Jefferson Johnson and Katie Pauline Johnson (Muckleroy). Sammie was a member of the MacArthur High School graduating class of 1967. Sammie married Patsy Jo Leaseman from San Antonio, TX, and later married Doris Coulter from Eunice, NM and had two daughters: Pauline and Bobbie. Sammie married Michelle Sharp from Houston, TX and had one son and one daughter: Sammie Ray Jr and Bethany ZooAnn. Sammie Johnson Sr married Linda Lowery from La Grange, TX and he gained two stepsons: Paul and Bryan Lowery.

Sammie grew up on a farm and was no stranger to hard work. Sammie worked as a truck driver, "a professional" as he would call it, until his passing. He was known for his physical strength, passion for car shows, or anything that he could "gear jam." Sammie will be fondly remembered for his loud boisterous laughter, his joy for the simpler things in life: such as toy trains, and his strong Christian faith. Everyone who spoke with Sammie knew his devotion to his family, and his life-long dream of moving to Montana.

Sammie is survived by his son Sammie Ray Johnson Jr; his daughters Bobbie Smith and Bethany Johnson; daughter-in-law Vanessa Johnson; stepsons Paul and Bryan Lowery; brother Dannie Wade Johnson; sister-in-law Jaqueline Johnson; grandsons Grayson and Samuel Wells; granddaughters Alisha (Austyn) Dahm, Samantha Smith, and Krystal Johnson; great-grandsons Asher and Bennett Dahm; nephews Benton Morgan and Timothy Lynn Johnson, Robert Todd White; and niece Trisha Marie White, as well as numerous cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Sam and Katie Johnson; his wife Linda Johnson (Lowery); and his daughter Pauline Faye Wells (Johnson).
