Papa Itschner

November 28, 1928 — March 24, 2017

It is with great sadness that the family of James E. Itschner announces his passing on Friday, March 24, 2017 after a long and happy life.

Born in 1928 in Sayre, OK to Rudy and Opal Itschner, Jim worked alongside his father in the ranching business until adulthood when he began his long career as a butcher (Puckett's), supermarket manager (Puckett's and Foodway), division manager (Gibson's), and proprietor of Jim's Meat Market (Seguin, TX). Jim set the standard for customer service and efficient management of his businesses. He sincerely cared for his employees and was a true professional. Jim was also an avid reader, crossword puzzle solver, and a great storyteller who delighted in telling stories of the past to his family and friends. Above all, he was a dedicated family man who adored his family. Jim was a very special man and will be missed by all.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife (Marilyn Itschner), brother (Russell Itschner), sister (Gayle Burnum).

He is survived by his daughters, Cherie Landers (Duane White) of Flatonia, TX, Bobbi Rossi (Jerry) of Raleigh, NC, Vickie Saye (Dennis) of Santa Fe, NM; sons, Joel Landers of Austin, TX, Mike Landers (Karin) of San Angelo, TX; granddaughters, Hannah-Skye White and Caitlin Tibbets (John), Crystal Hanson (Chris), Staci Landers, Romni Rossi and Alysa Smith; great-grandchildren, Mason and Layne Tibbets, Christopher and Matthew Hanson, Mia Ekenbarger, and Delaney and Hagen DuCote; brother-in-law, Roy Burnum of Brownwood, TX; nephew, Royce Itschner (Cynthia) of Rockport, TX.

The family gives special thanks to the staff at the Gracy Woods I Nursing Center and Hospice who made Jim happy and comfortable during his final months. A special thanks also to Suzie Alcala, who cared for Jim at home.

The family requests that, if friends wish, memorial donations may be made to a Hospice in your area or to the Gracy Woods I Nursing Center, 12021 Metric Blvd, Austin, TX.

A Celebration of Papa Jim's Life will be held at the Bastrop State Park at 4:00pm on Saturday, April 15, 2017.
