Mildred “Mimi” Mick Briggs Perry, age 89, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2025 in the town she called home, Smithville, Texas. Mimi was born on December 2, 1935 in New Gulf Texas. Her family later moved to Smithville, where she graduated high school. During her high school years in Smithville, Mimi excelled and received many honors, including Miss Smithville High School and Band Sweetheart. Known for her beauty and talents, she was also recognized as Smithville’s All-Around Girl. It was during those years she would also meet her high school sweetheart, Jim Briggs, and who would later become her husband. Mimi and Jim had four children, Lori Ellen, Carol Anne, James Michael and Jeffery King. Mimi was a loyal Texas Longhorn, and was a UT Longhorn twirler. Mimi would go on to proudly earn her degree from The University of Texas in 1970.
Mimi spent many years teaching in the public school system until her retirement in 1998 from Marble Falls High School. During her teaching career, Ms. Perry, as she was known to her students, would teach many students in classes such as home and family living, child development and other home economic skills.
While Mimi shared her talents in the classroom, she was also known by many as a very talented seamstress. She sewed many pieces for her own children and grandchildren. Lori, Carol, Jimmy and Jeffery were often wearing a “Mimi original” throughout their childhoods. Known for having closets full of fabric, she had an art for turning any piece of fabric into a beautiful garment, blanket and even a Halloween costume or two!
Mimi had many hobbies. She enjoyed exercise, including walking and yoga. She was also an avid reader and was known to read two books at a time. She would have one book in the living room and another by her bedside. She enjoyed puzzles and looked forward to her daily crossword and Jumble that she would conquer after reading the entire newspaper.
Upon retiring from teaching, Mimi packed up and moved back to Smithville where she would get to spend priceless time with her mother, Margaret Mick. Being back in Smithville gave Mimi the opportunity to spend more time with family, including time with her precious grandchildren.
Mimi is survived by her children, Carol Miller and husband, Garry of Smithville, son, Jeffery Briggs and wife, Vicki of Marble Falls, ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren, brother George Mick and wife, Helen of Smithville and two nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Chester and Margaret Mick, a daughter, Lori Anderson, a son, James Briggs and two grandsons, Jason Briggs and Brandon Anderson.
Mimi was a beautiful soul inside and out and was loved by so many.
