Obituary

Michael Duane Moran, 80, of Smithville, TX, died peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones August 1, 2026. He was born in Houston, TX, May 5, 1946 to Henry Charles Moran, Jr. and Rose Isabelle Moran (née Devine). He graduated from W.B. Ray High School in Corpus Christi, TX. Soon after, he served as an aviation electrician for the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Michael graduated from Southwest Texas State University as a computer network engineer. He was a beloved husband and father who lived a full life, rich with stories of his adventures. He was a backyard mechanic, a lover of music, and an amateur photographer. He always had a car to work on, a guitar to pick, and a story to share. Michael was active in the Episcopal Church throughout his life, serving as Warden for St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Wells, NV, lay reader at St. James Episcopal Church in La Grange, TX, and could always be found singing in the choir. He volunteered for the Special Olympics and donated his time and sound equipment for local events.

Michael is survived by his siblings Marcia Thomas and Gregory Moran, his wife of 54 years—Martha Elese Moran (née Swett), his son Aaron Michael Moran, his three daughters Elese Marie Moran, Megan Ann Heuse (née Moran), and Robin Gayle Moran, and by his two grandsons Corbin Righley Heuse and Henry Frances Wu.
