"The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want." — Psalm 23:1

Melvin John Beck, 87, of Rockne, Texas, went home to the Lord on November 5, 2025. He was born on December 10, 1937, in Rockne to Robert and Lucy Beck.

Melvin graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic School in 1956 and later retired from the State Board of Insurance. He was a man of strong Catholic faith, known for his kindness, generosity, and sense of humor. Melvin never met a stranger and left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

Melvin is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Flora Mae Beck, and their children: Nancy Goertz (Kerry), Donald Beck (Sharise), and Susan French (Greg). He was a proud grandfather to Kristine Lee (Chad), Krystal Frazier (Gregg), Cody Goertz, Jack Beck (Brittany), Gordon Niels (Sam), Shara McKay (Andrew) and Shana Doyle (Ryan), and a great-grandfather to Kenzie and Aubree Lee, Brooks and Carson Frazier, Veronica Aquino, Mylah and Grayson Niels, Moses, Austen, Reese and Isaac McKay, David and Parker Doyle. He is also survived by his brother Cleo Beck (Anna) and in-laws Estelle Seidel, Patsy Goertz (William), Clayton Hoffman (Wanda), and Richard Hoffman (Patsy), along with many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Roger Beck, his sister, Verena Frerich, and in-laws Alice Beck, Margie Beck, Verlin Frerich, Tom Hoffman, and Gene Seidel.

Melvin had a joy for life that showed in everything he did. He loved fishing, hunting, gardening, and making wine. He looked forward every year to hosting the Fourth of July picnic at the lake house, spending time at the casino, traveling, and pulling a good prank on just about anyone.

Some of his favorite memories were made working the pecan bottoms with his brother-in-law Tom, pitching washers in Port Aransas, and playing dominoes—especially “moon,” where he never missed a chance for a friendly wager. He also enjoyed a good cold beer or margarita surrounded by family and friends.

We find comfort in knowing that Melvin’s legacy lives on through the love he shared, the lessons he taught, and the many wonderful memories that will live forever in our hearts.
