Mary Edith, age 85, passed away on May 10, 2016. She was a resident of Smithville, Texas at the time of her passing.

Mary Edith was born to Kathryn Agnes Paschal McNeir and Charles Martin Nelson on November 10, 1930. She married Floyd Wayne Scott on September 24, 1950. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary before his death in 2001. Together, they had one daughter, PK Scott, and one granddaughter, Sarah Edith Scott.

Mary Edith received a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Texas A&I University in 1956 and went on to earn a master's degree from the University of Texas in 1962. She spent most of her career as an educational diagnostician in the Channelview Independent School District.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Smithville and was active in the United Methodist Women and Daughters of the American Revolution. In her golden years, she became a world traveler, visiting Alaska, Australia, New Zealand, Scotland, and Norway visiting relatives and making new friends along the way.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Scott and her sister, Susan Roberts Nevills. She is survived by her daughter, PK Scott of Smithville, Texas, her granddaughter Sarah Scott, and her sisters, Ruth Stanford, Anne Benge, and Kay Cessna.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 12, 2016 at Marrs-Jones Funeral Home in Smithville, Texas. The funeral service, officiated by Reverend Karen Boehk, will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Smithville at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 13th. A graveside service, officiated by Reverend Ted Smith of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, will follow at the McNeir Family Cemetery in Smith Point, Texas at 5:00 p.m.
