Martin Ervin Benedix was born on December 29, 1946 to Harold and Katherine (Krieg) Benedix in Smithville, Texas. He lived his young life in Smithville with his parents and six siblings. Martin "Bubba" loved his siblings dearly and loved to participate in all the games and activities they were doing.

 

Martin was baptized on February 2, 1958 and confirmed into the Lutheran Faith at Grace Lutheran Church in Smithville on September 15, 1968.

 

He learned at about hard work at a very early age which helped him in his life of many different careers. Martin worked as a carpenter helper, dishwasher at restaurants, and a janitor at the University of Texas and the State Capital. In his retirement years, he worked at Walmart as a sacker and carryout which he loved dearly.

 

Martin is survived by brother-in-law, Frank Votaw of Angleton; sisters, Mary Ann Duty (and husband Jim) of Smithville, Darlene Becker of Smithville and Janie Hunter of Cuero.

 

He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, Vicki Vinklarek, Jimmy Duty Jr., Janice Havens, Leroy Votaw, Christina Webber, Clyde Votaw, Kerry Becker, Darrell Becker, Sophie Karstedt, Crystal Voges, Art Hunter Jr., Jason Benedix, Walter Benedix II, Trey Benedix, and Tana Beath.

 

He was preceded in death his parents, Harold and Katherine Benedix; sisters, Elizabeth Votaw, Jo Ann Karstedt; brother, Walter Benedix; brothers-in-law, James Becker, RobertKarstedt; and newphew, Rhinehardt Karstedt.

 

On December 18, 2023 God called him to his heavenly home. Martin oved his church and all the friends that he made. He will be greatly missed on earth but he is now in heaven greatly rejoicing.

 

In lieu of flowers memorial gifts  may be given to Grace Lutheran Church of Smithville.

 

 


 

Services will be Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at the Grace Lutheren Church in Smithville, Texas.

The visitation will begin at 9am and the service will be at 10:00am with burial following at Oak Hill Cemetery.
