Lynda Ambrose

Lynda Marlene Ambrose was born to Arthur Lane Ambrose and Elzena Martha Slima Ambrose on February 6, 1964 at Edwards Air Force Base, California. From that moment on she loved California and knew one day she would return to her birthplace to live. Her youth was spent traveling around the world as an Air Force Brat with her 7 siblings until her father’s retirement at Bergstom Air Force Base in Austin, Texas. She was the sixth of eight children all born within ten years of each other. She enjoyed a lively and loud childhood with her brothers and sisters; full of laughter and of course squabbling! She was a terrific athlete throughout high school and college, playing basketball and volleyball. She received a volleyball scholarship to St. Edwards University in Austin, Texas where she attended for two years. Lynda worked various jobs in her youth but her calling was as a Certified Nursing Assistant to her elderly patients. She had a heart of gold and so much patience as a caregiver that her patients went from clients to family in no time at all.

She returned to California as a young adult and enjoyed going to the beaches most! Her entire life she loved the outdoors and experienced nature to its fullest by enjoying skiing, hiking, swimming and cycling on into her adult years.

In her 30’s she returned to Texas and settled in San Antonio where she met up with childhood friends Julia and Beth and then was introduced to Laurie and Christi where the friendship of these girls turned into much more! Three of these girls created a sisterhood “The Ya-Ya Sisters” and remained close until her death where they held her hand and watched her return home to Jesus. Lynda had a heart of service and extended that to her community in San Antonio by working as a caregiver with Visiting Angels to those who needed care the most.  She was a beacon of Love and Light to those struggling in the last years of their life. Her compassion and Joy for all God’s people reflected who she was at her core.  She was a member of Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in San Antonio where she was a pillar of joy for all at her church community. She regularly attended the  5:00 p.m. Mass on Saturday’s where she welcomed parishioners with her radiant smile as a Hospitality Minister and gave of her time weekly to help the less fortunate by serving on multiple Mobile Loaves and Fishes teams.  She also enjoyed helping out with the Kid’s Games at the annual church festival.  She was an ACTS Sister and was grateful to serve on team and share the love of Jesus with others.

Lynda overcame a severe head injury from a car accident in her early twenty’s to live a full and abundant life until once again she faced tragedy in the form of cancer. She fought a 10 year battle with aggressive cancer with integrity, strength, humility and great love. Lynda spent the last two years of her life in the Towers Nursing Home in Smithville Texas. Although sick and suffering she spread love and joy to those around her with her Christ like Spirit that radiated from her.

Lynda is survived by her parents: Art & Elzena Ambrose of Smithville, Texas. Her brothers Glen Ambrose (Tara Ambrose), Gary Ambrose (Judy Ambrose),  Larry Ambrose (Heather Ambrose) and sisters Therese Paquette (Kevin Paquette), Lisa Shivener (Randy Shivener), Brenda Hofferek (Mike Hofferek) and Christina Francis. She is also survived by her nephews: Darren Francis, Greg &Trevor Shivener, Graham Ambrose, Michael Ambrose, William & Lane Hofferek, K.R., Robert & Chris Paquette. Her nieces Avery & Elisabeth Ambrose and her           great-nephew Hayden Francis and her great-nieces Brooklyn Francis and Makalynn Shivener. Lynda is also survived by her best friends Julia McCormick (Kevin, Jimmy, Christopher & Anna), Laurie Phillips (Keith, Bryce & Hailey), Beth Young (Lisa Brodsky, Daniel & Nicole), Christi Tschihart (Mike, Heather & Jacob) and their families.

She was a loving, loyal friend, sister, daughter and aunt.  She had a spunky unfiltered spirit, which kept us on our toes.  Most certainly, a diamond in the ruff!  No doubt, she sparkled!!

Most of all, Lynda leaves a legacy of love, compassion, service and joy!  We give thanks and praise to God for Lynda’s life and we rejoice that she is no longer suffering.  She remains a beautiful light in the lives of all those that knew her.  May she rest in peace in the arms of Jesus.
