Leo Hofferek

April 21, 1937 — August 17, 2018

Leo Hofferek, “The Barber” at the age of 81, lost his life in a car wreck on his way to work on Friday, August 17, 2018.

A native of Rosanky / Smithville, Texas, Leo followed in the footsteps of his two aunts and became a barber in 1961 where he worked as a barber in Smithville until 1968. He then moved to Rosenberg, TX where he then worked along side Johnny Vacek at the City Barber Shop until he finally became the local barber in East Bernard, TX at Murrile’s Barber Shop in July 1985 until they closed the shop closed after 100 years. He spent his final years at Sheila’s Barber Shop just a few blocks up the road.

Leo also had a love for playing music and picking guitars with his family and friends. He enjoyed and was very blessed to spend time with his kids, grandkids and great grandkids telling them stories of his childhood, while making wonderful memories to cherish and share one day with their kids and grandkids.

His parents, Arnold Lastovica, Edna Rosanky Hofferek & August Hofferek, his sister, Virginia Hofferek, son, Troy Hofferek and grandparents, father-in-law, mother-in-law, several aunts, uncles, relatives and friends, precede him in death.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Alice Wenke Hofferek, daughters, Debbie Dylla & Becky Whitlock, her husband Greg, sons, Steve Hofferek, his wife Darla & Greg Hofferek, grandchildren, Ryan & Dustin Dylla, Heather Grayless, Amber, Colby & Sommer Hofferek, Taylor Immel, Holly & Cory Brewer, great grandchildren, Sadie & Lincoln Dylla, Carson & Ashton Immel, brothers Bob & Henry Hofferek, David Lastovica, sisters, Linda Lastovica Krumnow, Patricia Lastovica Hoffman and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

His legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of everyone he knew. Share your stories of remembrance on Sunday, August 26, 2018 at All Faiths on the Pines Funeral Home, 110 American Legion Rd. Smithville, TX. Visitation will start at noon followed by a service at 2:00pm officiated by his cousin Ernest Lastovica. Burial will be at Kovar Brethren Cemetery in Kovar, TX, followed by a celebration of remembrance at the Rosanky Community Center off of FM 535 in Rosanky, TX.
