Katherine Benedix

February 8, 1928 — July 10, 2019

Katherine Elizabeth Krieg Benedix was born February 8, 1928 to Arthur and Olga Krieg in Vernon, Texas. She was raised on a farm with loving parents and nine siblings. She learned about love for God, family, and hard work. All of these things stuck with her throughout her life. She had been a resident of Smithville, Texas for many years.

Katherine is survived by son-in-law Frank Votaw of Angleton; Martin “Bubba” Benedix of Round Rock; Mary Ann Duty (and husband Jim) of Smithville; Darlene Becker of Smithville; Jo Ann Karstedt of Houston; Walter Benedix of Smithville; and Janie Klinger (and husband Danny) of Cuero. She is also survived by her adoring grandchildren: Vicki Vinklarek, Jimmy Duty Jr. , Janice Havens, Leroy Votaw, Christina Webber, Clyde Votaw, Kerry Becker, Darrell Becker, Crystal Voges, Art Hunter Jr, Jason Benedix, Walter Benedix II, Trey Benedix and Tawna Beath . Katherine is also survived by 16 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She is survived by siblings: Walter Krieg of Vernon; Irene (and Marvin) Jackson of Amarillo; Ruth (and James) Massey of Jefferson; and Alice Guest of Atlus, OK.

She was preceded in death by parents: Arthur and Olga Krieg; one daughter Elizabeth Votaw; sons-in-law James Becker and Robert Karstedt; a grandson Rhinehardt Karstedt; and siblings: Raymond; Harvey; Alvin, Billy and Gladys Krieg.

Katherine loved her family and did what was necessary to raise her seven children largely on her own. She went on to love and adore her grandchildren, great grandchildren and a great great grandson. She took great pride in all of their accomplishments.

She was a strong and independent woman. Her only dependence was on her Lord Jesus Christ. She attended church and bible studies throughout her 91 years and was ever faithful to God even in the most difficult times. The Bible in her home was not a mear decoration in her dining room nor did it collect dust; it was a well worn and loved instrument of her faith.

While Katherine did not have earthly riches, each of us would have a great inheritance to be rich in faith like hers. We have no doubt that on Wednesday morning, July 10, 2019, Katherine was welcomed into Heaven with open arms by her Savior and Lord Jesus Christ and we celebrate her new Heavenly home.
