John Muras

November 15, 1945 — March 7, 2020

John A. Muras, 74, of Smithville, Texas passed away on March 7, 2020. He was born on November 15, 1945 to Willie J. and Lillie (Janda) Muras in LaGrange, Texas.

John spent the first half of his life living in Hostyn, Texas, on the family farm. During the Vietnam War, John was drafted into the army and spent a few years in training, but in the end, was not deployed overseas.  Throughout the years, John worked at various locations, including the RC Cola beverage plant, HEB grocery store, Walmart, and Dollar General.  In the early 90’s, John moved to Smithville, Texas, and enjoyed spending time with Sally, her family, numerous close friends, and numerous neighbors.  John was most happy when he was either spending time with his loved ones, or spending time with his farm, his John Deere tractors, and many other outdoor activities.  Along with being a Veteran of the United States Army, He was a member of KJT, Knights of Columbus, and St. Paul Catholic Church.

John is survived by his wife, Sally Mize; one sister, Mary Grahmann and her husband Bernard of Hallettsville, Texas; one sister-in-law, Olga Muras of Dallas, Texas; two long-term caregivers, Chase Wilhelm of Smithville, Texas and Nina Richards of Smithville, Texas along with numerous nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Lillie (Janda) Muras; his sister that passed at infancy; two brothers, Dominic Muras of Dallas, Texas and Cleo Muras and his wife Madgalen of Hallettsville, Texas; two sisters, Dolores Stryk and her husband Bernard of Victoria, Texas and Georgia Kubicek and her husband Eugene of San Antonio, Texas.

Pall bearers for John Muras will be Chase Wilhelm, Nina Richards, Stephen Grahmann, Jason Krobot, Ed Martinez and John Cordes.
