Jerry Martin

Jerry Glenn Martin, beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather died on October 31, 2019 in Austin, Texas.

Jerry was born in Corpus Christi, Texas, on September 28, 1932 to his parents, Freeman A. Martin and Beulah Glenn Martin. He was a member of the last class to graduate from Corpus Christi High School in 1950. Soon after graduation, he joined the Air Force, serving tours of duty in El Paso, TX; Goose Bay, Labrador; Austin, Texas; Chateauroux France; Naples, Italy; Atwater, California; and New Orleans, Louisiana.

While he was stationed in Austin, he met the love of his life, Hilda Marie Murphy Jacobson, and, on January 19, 1958, he married Marie and became a father to her two young children. Eleven months later, they were blessed with the birth of a third daughter, Rebecca. His only son, Jerry Glenn Martin Jr., was born in France, and his youngest daughter, Lisa, was born in Austin.

Jerry retired from the Air Force in 1973 and began working as a district manager for Western Auto, where he continued to work after he moved the family to Kingsville, Texas, in 1976. After retiring from Western Auto, he and Marie built their dream house on the shores of Lake Livingston in 1992, where Marie spent many nights fishing off of their boat house pier. After the death of his wife, Jerry moved to Smithville, Texas, to be closer to family who could take care of him. For the last five months of his life, he lived at The Cottages at Chandler Creek in Round Rock, Texas, where he was happy and well taken care of.

The Fraternal Order of Masons was an important factor in Jerry’s life as it had been for his father before him. He served as District Deputy Grand Master of Masonic District 27, Worshipful Master of Trinity Lodge 14, and president of the San Jacinto Scottish Rite Club for the 27th Masonic District, but he most enjoyed performing as Curley the Clown for children in the Shrine Hospital in Houston.

He is survived by his children, Janice Martin, Katherine Watson, Rebecca Martin, Jerry Martin, and Lisa Fitzgerald, four grandchildren, and six great-grand- children.
