Jerome Hubert (Jerry) Schoenwether
Jerome Hubert (Jerry) Schoenwether was born on August 5, 1937, in Hancock, Minnesota to Hubert and Zerlina Schoenwether and went to Glory on January 31, 2026 at the age of 89 while at home surrounded by his family. Jerry lived his life well, crossed many milestones and accomplished most of the goals he set for himself. After serving twenty years in the United States Navy, Jerry obtained a high school diploma and an associate’s degree in business while raising his family.
Jerry lost both his father and grandfather in a drowning accident at the tender age of ten, just a year and a half after his family started a new business running a restaurant and store on Lake Kabetogama in rural Minnesota. This tragedy turned Jerry’s life upside down. He joined the Navy at 17 with his mother’s blessing and needed signature.
He soon met his wife Sachi in Japan. Raising their four children in San Diego, he lost Sachi to cancer in 1989. The Lord brought Marilyn James, a widow, into Jerry’s life and they were married close to thirty years. They spent most of their time serving the Lord with Roving Volunteers in Christ’s Service (RVICS) and enjoyed visiting their family and friends all across the USA. Eventually, Jerry and Marilyn retired to the RVICS Village in Smithville, TX.
In addition to his parents and first wife, Jerry was preceded in death by his daughter Denise. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn, his children, Karen Penick (Michael), Carol Miller (Ken) and Dennis Schoenwether (Melissa); his stepchildren, Alvin James and Renae Allen (Dean); and thirty grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Jerry will be remembered for his loving generosity and quick-witted
humor. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
