Janice Seidel, age 86, of String Prairie, Texas was called from this life on September 23, 2022. Janice was born on August 3, 1936 to Josephine (Skaja) and Roman Schlicht in Gilman, Minnesota. Janice married Milbern Seidel on October 8, 1955 at St Mary’s Catholic Church in String Prairie, Texas and theirs was the first wedding reception held at Watterson Dance Hall.
Janice was an incredible and unconditional loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and aunt. She also greatly enjoyed the many years she worked at Dr. Marshall’s office in Bastrop. In addition to being a great student, she was a very gifted basketball player and was the leading scorer in a high school tournament during her years in west Texas. She enjoyed her Church, where over the years, she was a lecturer, Eucharist minister, CCD coordinator, member of the parish council, the St Anne’s Society and her many friends.
Janice is survived by her children Stephen Seidel and wife Theresa, Linda Kiecke and Husband Roy, Billy Seidel and Wife Deana, and Jeanne Thetford and husband Scott; Grandchildren, Krista Hager and Husband Chad, Jeffrey Kiecke and wife Leala, Trevor Seidel and wife Laura, Seth Seidel and wife Lauren Walker, Jeremy Seidel and wife Victoria Ehlinger, Abigail Seidel, Claire Seidel, Caitlin Thetford Soto and husband Amalcar Soto Zapata, Stephanie Brenneman and husband Rufus, Drew Thetford; and Great Grandchildren, Jack Kiecke, Kate Kiecke, Adelyn Hager, Henry Hager, Emma Brenneman, Trip Brenneman, Adelaide Seidel and Stephen Seidel. She was very excited to learn that more Great Grandchildren are on the way! She is also survived by her brothers Claud Garrett and Jimmy Garrett.
The family would also like to thank the many wonderful caregivers and physicians that did so much for Janice including Cheri Willard of Delhi, Dr. David Morledge of Austin and Olivia Blankenship (PA) of Bastrop.
A Rosary will be recited for her at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in String Prairie at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday October 2, 2022 with visitation beginning at 5:30 p.m. prior to the Rosary. The Mass will be celebrated at the church at 10:30 a.m. on Monday October 3, 2022 with interment to follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery at the church.
Arrangements have been entrusted to MarrsJones Funeral Home in Smithville, Texas
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church or the Bastop County animal shelter in loving memory of Janice Seidel.
