Smithville

James M. Schubert, 81 years old, passed away on June 6, 2025. He was born in Smithville, Texas on March 16, 1944 to the late Clyde Schubert and Irene Bell Schubert. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of almost 30 years, Paulette Sullivent Schubert, sister Betty Kolnacki and brother Clyde E. Schubert.

After attending Smithville High School, he served in the United State Air Force. Once honorably discharged, he had many careers, including working on the railroad, a restaurant owner, glass glazier, maintenance director and concealed handgun license instructor. He was also honored to be an Odd Fellow and member of the Rebekah’s lodge, serving many years in his beloved organizations. He was talented in many ways. He became passionate about painting at an early age and that passion never left him. The same went for playing the guitar and shooting guns. His love of guns turned into building a gun range for others to learn the importance of gun safety and self-defense. More recently he became inspired to write stories and songs.

He is survived by three daughters: Kimberly Frerich (husband Lynn Frerich), Tiffany Green (husband John Green) and Stefanie Wilhelm (husband Jason Wilhelm) and two stepsons Doyle Sullivent and Kevin Sullivent (wife Michelle Sullivent), nine grandchildren: Cody Karstedt, Laura Sullivent (husband Justin), Leslie Schroeder (husband Dylan), Ashley Kasper (husband Ty) Alyssa Cancilla (husband James), Weston Wilhelm, James Sullivent, Carla Sullivent, Mitchell Frerich and three great grandchildren: Sane Karstedt, Joseph Cancilla and Jeffrey Cancilla.
