Jack Gordon

Jack Finis Gordon, 94, of Cistern, Texas passed away at home on May 8, 2015. Jack was born on April 1, 1921 at Coolidge, Texas. He was the youngest son of Ed and Irene Gordon. Jack grew up farming cotton with his family in Lubbock, Texas. He attended The Texas Technological College in Lubbock and received a degree in Chemical Engineering. Jack was a Captain in the Army Air Corps from 1944 - 1947. Following his service in the military, he worked for The Western Company and later, Stewart and Stevenson Services.

Jack was a devoted and faithful Christian man committed to family and Christian service. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Smithville, Texas for thirty years. For many of those years he served as a Sunday School teacher. He was proud of his family and all their comings and goings. When he heard their good news he often remarked with a big smile, "Oh for Heaven's sake!" Jack has enjoyed ranching in Fayette County for fifty years. He loved his work on the ranch raising registered Black Brangus cows . Jack was a member of WJ Nixon Masonic Lodge #421 and received a life membership from this lodge. His total years of lodge membership covered over 50 years. He served in numerous leadership roles in Masonic work.

Jack is survived by his wife Beverly Gordon of 38 years, daughter Janice Ann Stewart and husband Jack Stewart of Waco, Texas and son Edmond Randel Gordon of Austin, Texas. Surviving grandchildren are Mark Christopher Stewart and wife Amanda of Waco, Ann Elizabeth Stewart Kennedy and husband Stephen Kennedy of Copperas Cove, Texas, Michael Gordon Stewart and wife Erin of Benton Louisiana, stepson Mark Lynn Williamson of Baytown, Texas. Jack has seven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Jay Gordon of Lubbock, Texas, sister Ina Fay Cameron of Amarillo, and sister Imogene Puckett of Big Spring.

Pallbearers are lodge brothers of WJ Nixon Lodge. Honorary pallbearers are Mark Stewart, Ann Kennedy, Michael Stewart and Mark Williamson.

Visitation will be held at Marrs-Jones Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 12, from 6pm to 8pm. Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning, 11:00 am at First Baptist Church of Smithville, Texas. Interment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery.
