Frances McGilvray

August 25, 1928 — March 1, 2024

Smithville

Frances McGilvray, 95, went home to be with her heavenly Father on March 1st

Waiting for her there was husband Gaylon who she enjoyed life with during their 63-year marriage.

Frances led a life of service to God, to her family and her community.  She was a lay leader at 1st United Methodist Church in Round Rock where they raised their family, and again at 1st United Methodist Church of Smithville where they were members for 30+ years.

Frances was a dedicated Bastrop County Extension officer, as well as a lifelong member and leader in the United Methodist Women. She held many offices, dedicated her time and prayer, and spent time on the road for these organizations she felt strongly about.

Frances was an excellent seamstress and made all four daughters' clothes while they attended school. She made their drill team uniforms and even made their dolls' clothes!  She was an avid reader and loved to spend time in good books, especially mysteries.  She developed her green thumb a bit later in life and always had her home filled with healthy plants and flowers.

When young and newly married, she & Gaylon bought a 250-acre ranch near Smithville where they returned to live full time at retirement.  Also early in their marriage, they built a cabin by hand on Lake Travis where their children & grandchildren grew up spending weekends and vacations.  Here is where they also hosted large annual family reunions for the whole extended family – great fun, good food and much fellowship!

Frances and Gaylon took their children on travel trailer vacations each summer and visited all the lower 48 states, Canada & Mexico. The family also spent many weekends camping at Texas lakes and Frances always made full meals for her family in that tiny travel trailer kitchen!

Her four daughters and their husbands are Gayle & Ron Kneupper, Karen & Edwin Repa, Pat & Don Bruggman and Annette & Don Hyden.  Missing their Amma / Nano are grandchildren Rauls (Rebekah), Allison (Matt), Brandon (Sarah), Brian (Ana), Lauren (Dave), Carolyn (Chris), Coley (Amber), Blake (Elle), & Grant. She had 15 great grandchildren & two that preceded her to heaven.

We miss her but celebrate in knowing that we will see her again! 💜

Matthew 25:23: 'Well done good and faithful servant'.
