Ervin Hofferek

July 18, 1928 — January 22, 2019

Ervin Lee Hofferek, 90, of Smithville, TX passed away late Tuesday evening, January 22, 2019. He was born on July 18, 1928 to William and Mary Hofferek of Rosanky, TX. Ervin attended school in Rosanky and went on to serve in the Army during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953.

Ervin married the love of his life Ann Votaw on August 20, 1955. They were married for 63 wonderful years. The two began to create their life together in Rosanky, TX and soon moved to Smithville to settle down in their home and complete their family. He is survived by his loving family members including his wife Ann Hofferek as well as his four daughters Pam Hofferek, Karen Blaschke (Rex), Lisa Saunders (Gary), and Lesley Hurta (Brad). He and Ann were blessed with their 8 grandchildren – Levi Johnston (Bailey), Christopher Blaschke, Taylor Blaschke, Tyler Saunders (Lindsey), Brooke Saunders, Seth Saunders, Kacie Hurta, and Konnor Hurta, as well as their 3 great grandchildren – Korbyn Johnston, Emma Saunders, and Owen Saunders.

He is also survived by his brother Joe Bill Hofferek (Glennie), sisters Janell Bunten and Mary Ann Watson (Dickie), sister-in-law Mary Ann Hofferek, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Robert Hofferek, his brother-in-law Bill Bunten, and his sister-in-law Charlotte Hofferek.

Ervin was so proud of his family and loved them so much; he would never fail to let them know with a smile and an “I love you!” Along with being a loving father and grandfather, Ervin was a devoted friend. Every Thursday for many years he met up with “the boys” at Zimmerhanzel’s BBQ for lunch. Ervin was also a dedicated member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, attending mass each and every Sunday. He worked a variety of jobs throughout his life, including dozer work, land and roadwork for Bastrop County, and managing the Oliver Pecan Company, but his greatest passion by far was farming and cattle ranching. Every Wednesday he would attend the Hills Prairie Livestock Auction, and he was especially proud of his Brahman herd! Ervin loved being constantly active and loved to be outdoors. He very much enjoyed tending to his vegetable gardens and the beautiful roses in his yard; he not only kept the products of his labor but almost always had a handful of something to give to his loved ones for them to enjoy.

Ervin was an inspiration to many people (young and old) with his knowledge of farming and ranching. He will always be remembered as a kind-hearted, hard-working man of his word, having a strong faithfulness to his family and God, and always having a witty joke prepared to make other people smile. He will always be in our hearts and will be cherished forever.

“I’m glad I had girls.”
