It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved brother and uncle, Ernest Mitchell Gray, who left us on October 14, 2025, at the age of 84, while a resident at Lost Pines in Bastrop, Texas.
Ernest was born to Henry Scott and Lillie Gray in Smithville, Texas, and proudly called Smithville his home for all of his 84 years.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Janet; his brother, Scott Gray; and sisters-in-law, Henrietta Gray and Frances Gray.
Ernest is survived by his sister, Elizabeth Gray; brothers, Zane Gray and Gene Gray and wife Glenda; six nieces; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
An avid hunter and fisherman, Ernest loved the outdoors and never missed a chance to share stories of his adventures. Whether teaching someone how to fish, hunt, or swapping tales around the table, he was always ready to pass on his knowledge and lend an ear to others’ experiences.
He was a devoted brother, uncle, and friend, and an active member of Colorado Cowboy Church in Smithville. His warm presence, generous spirit, and storytelling will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Family and friends will gather from 9:00am to 10:00am and the funeral service will begin at 10:00am on Wednesday, October 22, 2025 at the Colorado Cowboy Church with burial following at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Smithville, Texas.
