Dorothy Chambers

May 29, 1923 — July 25, 2017

On the morning of July 25, 2017, Dorothy "Doris" Louise Cooper Chambers departed this earth surrounded by her devoted and loving family at her home.

Doris was born on May 29, 1923 in Cuero, Texas to Ruth Isabel Leigh and Thomas Henry Cooper, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by the love of her life, Homer Woodrow Chambers in 1978. For nearly thirty-nine (39) years after his passing, she considered herself devoted and faithfully married to him and wore a wedding band almost every day. Also preceding her in death were her daughter Dorothy Gail Chambers, grandson Nathan Christopher Whidden, brother Edward Cooper, sister Tommie Leigh Cliett, and seven other loved siblings.

Doris is survived by her brother Clyde Roebuck and wife Rachael Roebuck; sons Jim Whidden and wife Maxine, Bill Chambers and wife Patty, Clay Whidden and wife Beverly; daughters Nancy Seabourn, Ida Ruth Chambers, Aimee Turner and husband Gary, Gwen Gallech and husband Glen. Also left with her memory are grandchildren Frank Whidden, Laurie Terrell, David Chambers, Marcy Tucker, Jessica Chambers, Patricia Soler, Homer Woodrow "Woody" Chambers II, Lucie Strouse, Dove Milhon, April Seabourn, Nathan Seabourn, Caitlan Seabourn, Cody Duran, Gage Duran, Jessica Turner and Zachary Dershem, twenty-two (22) great-grandchildren, seven (7) great-great grandchildren, numerous beloved nephews, nieces and dear friends.

A visitation and celebration of life service will be held Thursday, July 27, 2017 at 10:00 AM at the Smithville Church of Christ, 1416 NE Whitehead, Smithville, Texas. On Friday, July 28, 2017, Doris will be taken to Del Rio, Texas to be rested next to her beloved husband at Westlawn Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, please also consider a donation in her name to the American Diabetes Association or the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
