Doris Otto

October 10, 1940 — November 2, 2019

Doris Elaine Otto, born on October 10, 1940 left this world on November 2, 2019 having recently celebrated her 79th birthday.

Doris was the only child of Leon and Elsie Mae (Hausmann) Adamcik. She married Billy James Otto and they had two sons, Todd and Chad.  While the family moved around when the boys were young, Smithville was always her home and where she raised her family and lived out her life.

Doris’ surviving family includes sons Todd Otto & wife Lisa of Austin, and Chad & wife Nancy of La Grange; two grandchildren Brent Otto & wife Katrina, and Britney Schielack & husband Brandon, also of La Grange; two step grandchildren Allegra Abbey & fiancé Matt Berckmoes, and Josh Jahner.  Doris was blessed with 4 great grandchildren – Kaedyn, Skarlet, Bohen, and Winnie.  While she was an only child, she did have one brother- and sister-in-law, Ricky and Becky Otto of Danbury, to complete her family.  Her dog Sam was a loving companion as were multiple dogs throughout her life.

Billy preceded her in death, as did her parents.

In life Doris, known as Gee to her grandchildren, had many loves.  Family was her first love, but close behind was football, shopping, and sweets.  She fondly talked about Sunday visits that always included a big meal with desserts followed by 42, the Cowboys, and home made ice cream, with peach being her favorite. Saturdays in fall were always set aside for college football and her beloved Longhorns. Doris loved baking for her family and they loved eating her pies, cakes, and cream puffs.  Her dogs also benefited from her cooking getting freshly cooked meats and vegetables made especially for them.  But, as busy as she was, Doris always found time for shopping.

Doris worked several jobs, but later in life she was an aide for Smithville ISD usually assisting children with special needs, but filling in wherever needed.  After retiring, she enjoyed getting together with her group of lady friends, socializing with lifelong friends from the Smithville Class of ’58, and learning about the ancestry of the Hausmanns.

Doris wanted to leave her loved ones with this final thought "The future is a rainbow of beautiful tomorrows when seen through eyes of love.  May you always listen to each other with your hearts, treat each other’s feelings like your own, and take time to see the beauty in life and in each other." – Love, Mom & Gee
