Danny Waneck

February 6, 1950 — May 26, 2019

Danny Joseph Waneck, 69, of Rosanky, TX, passed away peacefully at his home on May 26, 2019 with his wife and caretaker, Linda, by his side.  He was born February 6, 1950 in Smithville, TX to Edmund and Catherine (Seidel) Waneck.  He married Linda Wilhelm on March 30, 1974.  In their 45 years of marriage they built their home in Rosanky and raised two daughters, Christie and Felicia.  He was a huge supporter in all their endeavors and so proud of all their accomplishments.

He graduated from Smithville High School in 1968.  He later enlisted in the Army National Guard, Airborne Division.  Danny liked to tell people that the first plane he ever flew in was also one he jumped out of as well.  He went to work for Lower Colorado River Authority in 1971.  He began his career as an Assistant Operator and advanced through promotions to Shift Supervisor in 1987.  After 33 years at Sim Gideon Power Plant in Bastrop, he retired from LCRA in September 2004.

Anyone that knew Danny knew he had a passion for nature and its creatures, never letting any animal suffer.  As can be seen by the all stray cats and dogs that made their homes at his house.  Wild animals also enjoyed making daily visits to the house. They knew there would be a special treat of some sort waiting on them.  The many hummingbird feeders and bird feeders were never empty.  His trips to feed his cattle and fish were greatly treasured.  He was so delighted to share those memories with his girls and his grandchildren.  Fun fact, Danny taught his girls how to dance The Twist in the middle of the cow pen one evening after working cattle.  Gardening was another hobby he enjoyed.  From potatoes to watermelons to tomatoes and peppers, he shared with many.

One of Danny’s favorite pastimes was cooking.  His homemade spaghetti sauce and sloppy joe recipes have been passed down to many.  He never missed completing the daily crossword in the newspaper and pretty sure he read every Louis L’Amour book written.  Other favorites were classic country music , western movies and Longhorn sports of any kind.

Preceding Danny in death are his parents and his brother Gene.  He is survived by his loving wife Linda, daughter Christie and husband Bradley Nutt, and daughter Felicia and husband Cody Northcut.  He leaves behind four precious grandbabies of which he was so very proud.  Kaycee Nutt, Carter Nutt, Makayla Northcut and Presley Northcut were the highlight of his life.

The family wishes to thank Seton and Hospice Austin for their compassion during his last few weeks.  Both facilities were extremely helpful to his family in the care that was received.
