Deacon Clyde Sherman Haywood Sr., known affectionately to all as Clyde, aged 85, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2024, in his hometown of Bastrop, where he was also born on December 30, 1938 to Ben Haywood Jr. and Larcelia White Haywood. He was a beloved husband, father and friend, known for his unwavering work ethic, keen sense of humor, and generous spirit.  After leaving Hopwell Primitive Baptist Church he became a member at Zion Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.

Clyde's life journey was marked by dedication and love for his family. He shared 64 wonderful years of marriage with his wife, Creama, whose partnership was the cornerstone of his life. Together, they built a home filled with laughter and kindness, setting an example of devotion for their children to follow.

Professionally, Clyde was respected for his strong work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit. He spent many years as a dedicated employee at Cederholm Measuring Wheel Manufacturing, a tenure that equipped him with the skills and knowledge to pursue his dream. In 1987, with a vision and determination, Clyde opened Piney Creek Auto. His business quickly became more than just a place of work; it was a hub for community gathering and support, reflecting Clyde's dedication to his neighbors and friends.

Clyde's involvement in various associations highlighted his commitment to service and community engagement. He was always ready to lend a hand or share advice, living by the well-known quote by Winston Churchill, "We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give." This philosophy was evident in every aspect of Clyde's life, from his business dealings to his personal relationships.

He departed this life on Tuesday, March 5, 2024.  He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Melivn and Willie Haywood. Sisters Annie Lee Haywood and Bettye Faye Haywood Emmanuel.

His absence will be deeply felt by those who knew him, but the legacy of Clyde's kindness, integrity, and generosity will live on. He is survived by his wife, Creama, his children, Larry (Katie) Clyde Jr. & Kirk, grandchildren, multiple nieces and nephews and a community that was better for his presence. Clyde's life was a testament to the impact one person can have when they approach every day with passion and purpose.

As we say goodbye to Clyde, we celebrate a life well-lived and cherish the memories he has left behind. His story does not end with his passing but continues in the hearts and minds of everyone he touched. Clyde Sherman Haywood Sr.'s light will continue to shine brightly, guiding us with the wisdom and love he shared so freely.
