Charles Cameron

February 18, 1948 — May 29, 2020

Charles Allen “Bubba” Cameron was born February 18, 1948 in Smithville, Texas. Charles left this earthly world on May 29, 2020 at his home in Bastrop, Texas. He was 72 years of age.

Charles, better known to all as Bubba, grew up enjoying the small-town life of Smithville. He enjoyed hunting and fishing; traits handed down from his grand-daddy Jim. He attended and graduated from Smithville High School where he was a Smithville Tiger Band member playing the trumpet. He also participated in FFA and Auto mechanics.

After graduation High School and attending college and Blinn Junior College and Sam Houston State University Bubba went to work for MK&T Railroad. That made him a third generation in the Railroad. After 38 years of service, Bubba retired in 2008. He also served in the United States Army Reserve from 1966-1974.

Bubba enjoyed Black Powder Hunting in Colorado. He would come home after a Colorado Hunting Trips with many great stories and had wonderful memories of his adventures.  Later in life, Bubba joined the Single Action Shooting Society (SASS) and enjoyed old west reenactments. His SASS name was Cowboy Habanero.

Bubba especially loved teaching young children to hunt, spot and skin squirrels and water ski. He enjoyed being a show horse dad, too; making memories in the show circuit.

Summers were spent at the coast always making new friends and never meeting a stranger.  Bubba was proud to be a member of Colorado River Cowboy Church (CRCC) and also a devout Christian. Bubba was a loving and generous man to all. Most of all, Bubba loved being a husband, father and grandfather.

Bubba leaves behind his wife of 46 years, Shirley Hancock Cameron; Son, Russell Kellar: Son, George Cameron and his wife Candice along with his Grandson, Brazos Kellar.

Also surviving is his Aunt Carolyn and Uncle George Swanson, Cousins: Patricia and Mike Johnston, Lisa and Larry Turner, Gina Swanson, Carol and Gary Miller, Jeffery and Vickie Briggs and Sister-in-law Barbara Puyear.

Bubba was preceded in death by his parents; George and LaVern Cameron and Grandparents Jim and Lucille Briggs. Also preceding in death were several cousins: Brenda Zapalac, Lori Anderson, Jimmy Briggs and Todd Swenson.

Bubba will be greatly missed but will live on through the people that knew and loved him.
