Ms. Carol Dene Stagner gained her angel wings on the 4th of March, 2022.

Carol was born on the 10th of July, 1931 in Smithville, Texas. Daughter of Loraine Cavie Horton & Edward ED Donnell. Carol was raised and attended school in Smithville, Texas. She married Lee Stagner in 1947, and together they raised three beautiful daughters; Marilyn Lee, Susan Ann, & Denise Loraine. Just as Carol had grew up, they also raised their daughters in Smithville. Lee owned a piece of property outside of Smithville referred to as The Lake. Together, they had a vision for the campground and lake to be a place for many generations of family to enjoy, just as they themselves had dreamed of. Lee passed away in 1996. They were married for 49 lovely years. Carol ensured their shared vision stayed true. To this day, the beautiful lake is a place of gather for countless friends and family. Carol was an excellent wife, mother, grandma & great grandma. Her kindness was always on display, as she loved her large family and friends dearly. Carol will truly be missed by the countless number of people that continue to enjoy the lake to this day. She was 90 years old. Carol was known for being gentle, loving, caring, and leading her family and others to a life of love and togetherness.

Carol is survived by daughters, Marlyn Wilhelm, Susan & husband, David Zimmerhanzel, Denise & husband, Steven Bratcher.

Carol enjoyed 11 grandchildren; Lee & wife, Lisa Zimmerhanzel, Ted & wife, Tiffani Zimmerhanzel, Jason & wife, Stefanie Wilhelm, Chase Wilhelm, Amanda & husband, Tab Young, Cody & wife, Marcie Wilhelm, Stephanie & husband, Matt Purvis, Candace & husband, Jake Hansford, Ashley & husband, Ben Horton, & Steven Bratcher.

Carol enjoyed 19 great grandchildren as well; Allison, Abby, Mason, Drew, and Harper Zimmerhanzel. Macy, Leslie, Weston, Brooke, and Cash Wilhelm, Nicholas and Devin Young, Matthew and Samuel Purvis, Jake, Ethan and Adriana Hansford, Alexandra, and coming soon Jack Horton.

Visitation will be Tuesday, March 8, 2022 from 5:00pm-7:00pm in the chapel of Marrs-Jones Funeral Home in Smithville, TX. Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 9, 2022 at 11:00am followed by interment in Oak Hill cemetery. If you would like to make a donation please donate to the charity of your choice in memory of Carol Dene Stagner.
