Brenda Zapalac

Brenda Tiner Zapalac, 70, passed away surrounded by the ones she laughed with, lived for, and loved on Friday March 1st, 2019 in Austin, Texas.

Brenda was born to Howard and Evelyn Tiner on June 5th, 1948 in Smithville. Brenda graduated from Smithville High School in 1966. She married George Louis Zapalac, Jr. on May 20, 1967 at St. Paul Catholic Church in Smithville and they began their lives together in Houston. Brenda enjoyed being with her whole family and always loved helping Grandpa with chores around their place. She enjoyed cooking and baking for all who visited their home. You could always count on eating something sweet and delicious when going out to Granny’s.

Brenda is survived by her son, Terry (Laura) Zapalac, daughter, Mariesa (Lance) Leiferman, son, Cody (Marcie) Wilhelm-Zapalac, and her sister Patty (Mike) Johnston, all of Smithville. Brenda has seven grandchildren; Dustin (Whitney) Leiferman, Taryn (Seth) McRee, Reid Zapalac, Kiley Leiferman, Ava Zapalac, Brooke Wilhelm and Cash Wilhelm. To them she was known as “Granny”, the light of their world and the back bone of the family. Each grandchild had a special place in her heart and she loved attending their activities. Brenda had numerous niece and nephews to whom she was their beloved Aunt they called “BZ” and was a friend to all.

Preceding her in death are her husband George L. Zapalac and her parents Howard and Evelyn Tiner.

Visitation is Monday, March 4th, 2019 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. 6:30pm will be a message from Russell Tiner of Young School House Church. The Rosary will begin at 7:00pm at All Faiths of the Pines in Smithville. Funeral services will be held at St. Paul Catholic Church in Smithville Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at 10:00am, followed by burial at Oak Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association.

The family would like to express sincere thanks to the caring and devoted staff of the St. David’s South Austin Hospital. All of her family and friends will sadly miss our “Granny”.
